Glasgow 2026 is revealing the mile-long installation one week before the Opening Ceremony to mark the return of this iconic Athletics event to the Commonwealth Games.

The Glasgow 2026 Men’s and Women’s One Mile Finals are taking place at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday 1 August.

Running from Clyde Place Quay in Tradeston, across the river on the Squiggly Bridge and west towards the SEC, the Commonwealth Mile gives people the opportunity to experience the distance that will be covered in this hotly anticipated track event.

Two Glasgow 2026 archways indicate either end of the distance, with markers featuring mascot, Finnie, along the Mile.

Travelling along the Commonwealth Mile is just one of many activities people can get involved in during Glasgow 2026, with more details of the programme for the Kelvingrove Park Game On Live Site also published.

Louisa Mahon, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Glasgow 2026, said: “With just one week to go until Glasgow 2026 begins, we can’t wait to welcome athletes and visitors from across the Commonwealth to the city.

“Our Commonwealth Mile and the fun-packed offer at our Kelvingrove Park Game On Live Site are brilliant ways to get involved with the Games on top of the 11 days of fantastic sporting action.

“They’re free, inclusive and family-friendly – with lots of hands-on fun at Kelvingrove that everyone can enjoy, no matter their age or ability.

“Pack your sunscreen and a cagoule and come and join us across the city and be part of an unforgettable summer of sport.”

Children, young people and families can look forward to gathering in the park to enjoy free activities, performances, sport and live screenings over the 11 days of Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games action.

More than twenty sports will be represented at the park, with local sporting groups and organisations offering fun and interactive ways to get involved and try them to inspire future athletes.

In addition, all the action from Games venues will be live streamed across multiple screens, alongside daily opportunities to meet athletes from across the Glasgow 2026 sporting programme.

Finnie the Glasgow 2026 mascot will also appear regularly at the Game On Live Site, to welcome everyone and lead fun exercises and activities for all the family.

Alongside these fantastic have-a-go activities, games and sport, people can look forward to trying a range of arts and crafts run by Glasgow-based artists, communities and organisations.

There will also be a range of dance, aerial and movement performances taking place, including opportunities to try out different dance styles.

Awaz FM, Scotland’s leading Asian radio network, will also base themselves in the live site during the Games, hosting live shows which will include interviews with athletes, visitors and the local community.
