Whitehaven Youth Club Is Being Challenged To Take The Lead On Encouraging Positive Change

South Whitehaven Youth Partnership’s, Senior youth club, at Mirehouse Community Centre is being challenged to take the lead on encouraging positive change in their communities through the Centre for Leadership Performance’s Leading Change Programme.

The Centre for Leadership Performance is delighted to receive funding to deliver their Leading Change Programme from the Cumbria Community Foundation’s #CanDo and Transforming West Cumbria programme which is funded by Sellafield Ltd.

Secondary programme manager Nicola Woolley explains: “This programme is very much led by the young people who will own and shape the Campaign plans based on the needs of their local communities.

“It will inspire and empower a new generation of young people to make a difference in their local communities.”

Centre for Leadership Performance will facilitate sessions to support the young people to come up with a campaign idea that reflects a change they want to see and will work with local businesses to pull together a campaign plan to make this a reality.

The inclusive programme started on November 2 every Wednesday and Friday at the SWYP, Mirehouse Community Centre.

It supports young people to develop their leadership skills, provides opportunities for their voices to be heard on issues that matter most to them, and encourages them to lead change in local communities throughout their campaigns.
