The final payments are about to be made from South Lakeland District Council’s Discretionary Energy Rebate Scheme.
Payments are due to be made under the scheme to residents who fall under the following criteria:
- £150 payment to households who were in receipt of a severe mental impairment or carer Council Tax disregard on 1 April 2022;
- £150 payment to households where the banding of the property has been reduced into Band D (with effect from 1 April 2022 or before) where the other eligibility criteria were met;
- £42 top-up payment to households in receipt of Council Tax Reduction as at 1 November 2022 and where they are of working age.
South Lakeland District Council has identified the households that meet the criteria above and where the council already holds bank details for payment of Council Tax by direct debit, or they have already been previously provided to enable payment of the energy rebate the payment will be automatically into bank accounts on Tuesday November 15
Where South Lakeland District Council does not hold bank details, eligible residents will receive a letter inviting them to complete a simple online form to provide bank details so payment can be made.
Bank details will have to be provided by November 20 2022 so that payments can be made on or before 30 November 2022.
The payment will have the following reference showing that it is payment from South Lakeland District Council – “SLDC ENERGY REBATE.”
If bank details are not provided, the energy rebate will be credited to council tax accounts.
If residents do not have a bank account, the energy rebate can be paid directly into Council Tax accounts and this can be indicated when completing the online form.
Please note the rebate will not need to be repaid unless it has been paid in error or it comes to light that a household was not eligible to the payment due to a change in circumstances.
Anyone who has received a payment and think they may not be in a qualifying property, should please let South Lakeland District Council know straight away.
Apart from the energy rebate for homes in Council Tax band A to D, South Lakeland District Council has also made payments to people in bands E-H in receipt of certain benefits and discounts under our discretionary scheme and also ran an application window for those households in receipt of certain income based benefits.
Those applications have now been considered and applicants have been advised of the outcome.
