North West Women’s Regional Football Leagues Kick Off

After the success of England at the Euros the North West Women’s Regional Leagues kicked off with the opening fixtures coming thick and fast.

On Sunday August 21 the three divisions produced a mixed bag of results for teams after months of preparation.

In the Premier Division newly promoted Curzon Ashton FC Women sit top with a 0-3 win at Crewe Alexander FC Women with Cheadle Town Stingers second after a 1-3 win over the other promoted team Blackburn Community Sports Club Women.

In third is Salford City FC Lionesses Women after a 2-3 away win at Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies.

Tranmere Rovers picked up a 0-1 win at Darwen FC First Women while West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC Women and Mossley Hill Athletic First Ladies shared the points with a 3-3 draw.

The midweek fixtures have Wigan Athletic Ladies and Girls starting their campaign with a home game against Blackburn in the early kickoff at 18:45 (6:45pm) on Wednesday August 24.

FC United of Manchester start at home to Curzon Ashton, Cheadle Town host Crewe Alexander while Salford City take on West Didsbury.

All three matches are 19:30 (7:30pm) kickoff on Wednesday.

Thursday night has Tranmere hosting Mossley Hill at 19:30 (7:30pm).

In Division One North their were big wins for Blackpool FC Girls First and new side Bolton Wanders Girls FC Women as they both ran out 5-1 winners as they beat Penrith AFC Ladies and Morecambe Ladies.

Chorley Women FC Development lost 1-4 to Haslingden Ladies and Girls while Penwortham Town Ladies picked up a 0-2 win against Workington Reds Ladies, who will be playing their home games at rugby league side Workington Town home Derwent Park.

Carlisle United Ladies and Sir Tom Finney FC Women shared six goals in a 3-3 draw with five coming in the first half.

A round of midweek matches have Chorley Women taking on Penwortham Town, Haslingden host Accrington Stanley, Preston North End take on Blackpool while Sir Tom Finney face Morecambe.

The first Cumbrian derby of the season has Penrith AFC hosting Carlisle United.

New side Poulton Vics FC Ladies made a winning start to life in Division One South with a 0-3 win over Wythenshawe Amateurs Women as Chester FC Women went top with a 4-0 win over Altrincham FC Women.

Bury AFC Women got the better of a seven goal game to win 3-4 at Runcorn Linnets FC Ladies as Northwich Vixens First Women won 1-0 at home to Hindley Juniors Women.

Warrington Wolves Foundation Womens FC beat Alder FC Women 1-2 to sit fourth above Northwich Vixens.

In a round of midweek matches BRNESC Ladies start their campaign with a home tie against Alder FC, Bury AFC face Wythenshawe Amateurs, Northwich Vixens host Altrincham FC and Warrington Wolves face Hindley Juniors.

An early top of the table clash takes place as Poulton Vics take on Chester FC.
