A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 60s was found dead at a property in Carlisle.

At 11:23pm on Sunday, August 2, police responded to reports of a sudden death of a woman at a property in the Caldewgate area of Carlisle. 

Emergency services attended, but a woman in her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Following this, a man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of murder and an investigation was launched.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “Investigations are currently ongoing.

“Members of the public may notice an increased police presence in the area whilst officers carry out enquiries. 

“We would like to reassure the public that there is no wider threat to the community and ask that people avoid speculation whilst the investigation is ongoing.”
