A Whitehaven man has been sentenced to 21 days in prison after being found guilty of abusing a takeaway worker.
At Carlisle Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 23, John Charleton, 26, of Whitehaven was sentenced to 21 days in prison after being found guilty of a racially aggravated public order offence.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “We will not tolerate Hate Crime in our community and will do everything we can do to encourage a safe and welcoming environment for all.”
The incident took place inside a takeaway on Duke Street, Whitehaven on Friday, February 13, 2026.
Charleton entered the takeaway and was abusive to the staff member inside, including mocking their accent.
