A Carlisle man has been jailed after leaving a woman ‘fearing for her life’ in a ‘serious and violent’ assault.
Ross Henderson, 33, of Henderson Road, Carlisle was sentenced to two years in prison for one count of assault, one count of intentional strangulation and one count of possession of class B drugs.

He was found guilty of the offences at Carlisle Crown Court on June 26, 2026.
The court heard how in February 2024 Henderson assaulted a woman by kicking her in the face, lifting her off the floor by her throat and banging her head off a ledge, causing her to fear for her life.
Henderson pleaded guilty this morning to several offences.
Detective Constable Van Der Westhuizen said: “This was a serious and violent assault which left the victim fearing for her life.
“Violence of this nature will never be tolerated, and we are committed to ensuring offenders are brought before the courts.
“I would like to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward and supporting this investigation.
“Support is available and the Constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances.”
