A man has been jailed after two members of a family suffered knife injuries when he entered a neighbour’s home armed with a knife.
In the early hours of November 27, 2025, police responded to reports of an injured person at a property in Penrith.
The court heard how Samuel Hughes, 46 from Penrith, broke into his neighbours property armed with a knife.

While in the property Hughes attacked the occupants – a family – which left two men with knife wound injuries.
Both sustained injuries to the hands and one also in the head and neck, as they attempted to defend themselves from Hughes, the court was told.
The 46-year-old was arrested, charged and pleaded guilty to two counts of wounding with intent to cause GBH and one count of attempted wounding.
On Friday, May 29, he was sentenced, at Carlisle Crown Court, to eight years in prison.
Detective Constable Ross Green, Eden CID, said: “This was a violent assault on people in their own home late at night.
“This level of unprovoked violence is unacceptable and we are pleased that Hughes has received substantial jail time as a result of his actions.
“Convictions such as this demonstrate that Cumbria Police will do everything we can to make sure those who engage in acts of violence are brought to justice.”
