The investiture, hosted in the historic setting of Muncaster Castle, brought together recipients, their families and invited guests to recognise exceptional service across education, policing and community life.

The recipients honoured were:

  • Frances Elizabeth Hill – for Services to Education
  • Susan Holliday – for Services to Policing and to the community in Cumbria
  • Christine Marie Pattinson – for Services to the community in Distington, West Cumbria

Each recipient was presented with their medal by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Alexander Scott, in recognition of their dedication and lasting impact within their respective fields.

The evening was made particularly special by the warm hospitality of Iona Frost-Pennington DL and Peter Frost-Pennington, who welcomed guests to Muncaster Castle for the occasion.

Citations were beautifully delivered by Deputy Lieutenants Christopher Holmes and Iona Frost-Pennington, highlighting the significant achievements and personal contributions of each recipient.

Speaking following the ceremony, it was noted that the British Empire Medal recognises individuals who go above and beyond in service to their communities, often over many years, and whose commitment makes a meaningful difference to the lives of others.

The Lieutenancy remains proud to celebrate and support such achievements across Cumbria, recognising those who embody the very best of public and community service.
