West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Whitehaven lead fours as Cleator Moor miss chance to go top

Whitehaven A stay top of the West Cumbria Fours League while Cleator Moor miss the chance to take over at the top of the Mixed Triples League.

In the County fixtures the Alsop team made the trip to Lancashire.

West Cumbria Fours League

Cleator Moor moved joint top on Thursday, May 21, with a 7-0 win at Vulcan Park.

This was short lived as Whitehaven A continued their winning run on Friday, May 22, with a 5-2 victory over Seaton.

Workington A closed the gap to 5 points with a 7-0 win at Cockermouth side Harris Park.

Keswick side Fitz Park, who sit fourth, won 5-2 at Maryport while Workington B picked up a 7-0 win over Whitehaven B.

The top two face off on Friday, May 29, as Workington A host Whitehaven A while Cleator Moor welcome Harris Park.

Workington B head to Keswick to take on Fitz Park as they look to break into the top four.

Vulcan Park will be looking to pick up some points at Seaton after narrowly missing out against Cleator Moor and Maryport head to Whitehaven B.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

Egremont moved into the top four with a 8-2 win over Vulcan Park B on Tuesday, May 19, Cleator Moor missed out on the opportunity to go clear at the top.

Heading to Workington the Moor team lost 6-3 to Vulcan Park A.

In the battle of coast versus fell it was the coast teams that won.

Seascale were beaten 7-2 by Cockermouth side Harris Park A as Whitehaven B won 7-2 at Harris Park B and Maryport were 6-3 victors at Cockermouth team Croft.

Leaders Wigton’s game with Workington A and Workington B’ match with Seaton will both be rearranged for a later date.

Wigton head to Cleator Moor on Tuesday, May 26, as the pair battle it out for top spot while Whitehaven A head to Maryport after their week off and Whitehaven B host Vulcan Park A.

Vulcan Park B take on neighbours Workington B as they look to move off the bottom of the table.

Cockermouth club Harris Park A make the trip to Seaton while Harris Park B welcome Seascale and Croft head to Workington A.

Cumbria County Teams

Cumbria’s Alsop Cup team were in action in Saturday, May 23, against Lancashire at Bolton.

The Cumbrian team, a mix of players from across the counties leagues, lost 18-4 to the Lancashire side.

This leaves them bottom of the five county league with Yorkshire and Durham to play.
