Cumbria Firefighters worked late into the night to tackle a large wildfire near Gilsland.
The fire was reported on Tuesday, May 12, just before 5pm and involved grass and gorse over about 500 metres by 1,200 metres as well as a second fire.
Due to the size of the fire it was attended by fire engines from Alston, Ambleside, Appleby, Brampton, Carlisle East and West, Lazonby, Sedbergh, Silloth and Windermere fire stations.
Hose reel jets, backpacks and beaters were used to contain and extinguish the fire, with crews supported by specialist wildfire resources and a wildfire tactical adviser.
Firefighters from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also supported the response.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Fire and Rescue said: “The incident was scaled back just after 11pm, with all but one fire engine released from the scene, and monitoring and damping down of hotspots has continued this morning.”
