Workington Reds Ladies have secured funding for the launch of a new development team.
The launching of the Development Team has been made possible with £10,000 funding from the Sellafield Ltd SiX – social impact, multiplied programme.
A spokesperson for the team said: “This funding will enable us to double the opportunity for female footballers to play in an open aged football structure from over the age of 16 years old, giving us the financial security to enter in to this new venture.
“On behalf of everyone associated with the club, we thank Sellafield Ltd SiX programme for showing their support.”
Earlier in the year the team held a taster session with new coaches Kevin Young and Nigel Thornthwaite putting the potential new recruits through their paces with more announced.

The club is currently in the process of changing the clubs name after finding a home at Workington Town’s rugby league Fibrus Community Stadium.
The first team can be seen on Sunday, February 4, in action against Penwortham Town in the North West Regional Women’s Division One.
