Rugby Union Enters The Penultimate Month With Cumbrian Sides Having Plenty To Play For

Everything is heating up as the rugby union season heads into the penultimate month with Cumbrian sides involved at both ends of the tables.

The North West Division is almost a two horse race as Blackburn’s 33-21 win over Northwich and Lymm’s 7-95 victory against Kirkby Lonsdale leave them sixteen points clear after the games on January 28.

As Wirral beat Sandbach 30-13 and Rossendale left Stockport with a 48-37 defeat.

Kendal were beaten 12-41 by Macclesfield and Burnage lost 10-33 at home to Manchester.

Four games on February 4 as Lymm look to go top with victory over third placed Sandbach, Macclesfield face fourth placed Rossendale, Manchester host Northwich and Kirkby Lonsdale take on Stockport.

What a difference two rounds can make in the Regional 2 North.

Penrith now sit nine points clear after a 0-36 win over South Shields Westoe as Morpeth lost 8-25 at home to Northern on January 28.

Carlisle lost 31-45 to Aspatria, Stockton piped Keswick in a 24-22 game, Consett went down 19-25 to Middlesbrough while Durham City lost 5-31 to Percy Park.

On February 4 Penrith face Percy Park as Morpeth take on Consett, Carlisle host Stockton, Durham City welcome South Shields Westoe, Keswick play Middlesbrough and Northern head to Aspatria.

Upper Eden continued their unbeaten run with a thirteenth win away to Egremont in Conference 1 on January 21.

They are 15 points clear of Cockermouth after the 7-31 win at Egremont while Cockermouth beat Millom 48-0 as Wigton were victorious with a 36-22 win over Whitehaven.

Whitehaven and Cockermouth start February’s week earlier as they face each other on February 4.

In the Conference 2 St Benedicts take over at the top after being awarded an away win against Silloth with Hawcoat Park having a home win awarded against Workington in this round on January 28.

In the Friday night game on January 27, Penrith beat Creighton 24-0 to move into third.

Only the one game to kick off February as Hawcoat Park face Penrith on February 4.
