Review: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Benoit Blanc Is Back

By Gary

He is back the Southern American Benoit Blanc with another murder mystery to solve.

The Netflix film has “famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) traveling to Greece for his latest case.”

I’m pleased to see Blanc back.

Daniel Craig brought more eccentricity to the character this time around, but I liked it.

A modern-day Poirot. I’d happily see a series of his adventures on the big screen.

Netflix have the rights to make another of these with Daniel Craig and the Director Rian Johnson returning.

The all-star cast is great, they include Edward Norton (Fight Club), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous), Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision) and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist).

Benoit Blanc has been invited to an island, with some disruptors where the flames will be well fanned, to investigate a killing, a bit like Cluedo but more thrilling, although things don’t go quite exactly as was planned.

The events are peeled back, layer by layer, it’s fair to say these friends of old, are hard to bear, they all have the motivation, hold a grudge through their vocation, any one of them could turn into a slayer.

Alas the story doesn’t take your breath away, often predictable, and not too much to say, but it passes at a pace, the detective, solves the case, one or two tangents might just let you go astray.

I liked the first Knives Out movie slightly more than this follow up, which is also available on Netflix.

My Rating: 7/10
