Cumbrian Rugby Union Sides Find Division One Tough

It was a mixed bag for Cumbrian rugby union sides across the three divisions.

In the Regional 1 North West Division Cumbria’s two sides both suffered on their travels on Saturday October 29 as Kirby Lonsdale lost 118-3 to Lymm and Macclesfield won 53-26 against Kendal.

The lead at the top is now down to two points as Northwich lost 17-36 to table toppers Blackburn while third placed Rossendale beat Stockport 33-19 as they stayed four points off top with fourth placed Sandbach’s 32-17 win at home to Wirral keeps them six points behind top.

With Stockport losing Manchester moved above them with a 37-28 victory over Burnage.

On Saturday November 5 top faces third as Blackburn take on Rossendale, Wirral host second placed Lymm, fourth placed Sandbach welcome Stockport and Burnage play Northwich.

The two Cumbrian sides are both at home as Kendal host Manchester and Kirby Lonsdale face Macclesfield.

In the Regional 2 North the Cumbrian sides faired better on October 29 in the Cumbrian derby Aspatria tan out 65-0 winners against Carlisle as Keswick won 18-15 against Stockton and Penrith stayed five points off top with a 53-0 win over South Shields Westoe.

League leaders Morpeth won 8-26 away at Northern while Middlesbrough beat Consett 35-27 as Percy Park missed out by three points in an 11-14 defeat at home to Durham City.

It is the battle of the top two on Saturday November 5 as Morpeth host Penrith and Carlisle host Northern with both games kicking off at 2pm (14:00).

Consett welcome Aspatria, Durham City face Middlesbrough, South Shields Westoe host Keswick and Stockton take on Percy Park.

In the Cumbria League the two unbeaten sides moved into the top two places on Saturday October 29.

League leaders Upper Eden recorded an 80-17 over Wigton, who drop to fourth, while Egremont move up to second with a 7-29 win over Millom.

Up to third Cockermouth picked up a 3-26 win away at Silloth, St Benedicts won 50-14 at home to bottom side Workington and Penrith II beat Creighton 47-0.

In the next round on November 5 Upper Eden head to Workington, Egremont host Penrith II in a 2:15pm (14:15) kickoff, Cockermouth play St Benedicts, Wigton take on Whitehaven and Creighton welcome Silloth.
