Festival Of Running Returns To Workington

After a two-year absence due to COVID, Workington Town Council’s Festival of Running is making a welcome return.

Coming back to Workington Leisure Centre on Sunday August 14.

Organised in conjunction with Cumberland Athletic Club, the Festival of Running offers runners the chance to sign up for a 1k fun run, a 5k and a 10k run.

Keen runners of all abilities are invited to sign up for their chosen race by visiting the Visit Workington website.

Registration will also take place on the day and opens at Workington Leisure Centre from 11:00am, with races starting at 12 noon. Entries on the day will not be taken after 12:15pm.

Races will start at the leisure centre and will take participants out and around Workington allowing them to enjoy the beautiful scenery as they run.

The 1k fun run will start at 12 noon, is free to enter and fancy dress is optional, but there will be a prize for the best fancy dress.

The 5k run begins at 12:30pm and the 10k at 1:30pm.

The 5k run costs £6 to enter (£4 for UKA affiliated runners) there is a limit of 150 runners.

The 10k run costs £10 to enter (£8 for UKA affiliated runners) there is also with a limit of 150 runners.

There’ll be lots to do for those cheering on family and friends with a refreshment stalls and children’s entertainment and face painting available from 11.30am to 3.30pm.

​A compere will be present to ensure everyone knows where they are going and how to get to the start line on time. We’ll also have someone available to warm participants up before the start of each race to ensure their muscles are in good shape and to prevent any injuries.

The Cumberland Athletic Club will also be on hand throughout the day to give guidance and advice.

The Mayor of Workington, Councillor Denise Rollo, said, “It is great news that our Festival of Running is returning after two years. We welcome runners of all abilities to sign up and their families to come along for what promises to be a fun day full of fresh air, entertainment and exercise.”
