Stagecoach Supports Armed Forces Community With Free Travel For Armed Force Day

Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire is supporting Armed Forces Day 2022 by offering free travel to Armed Forces personnel all weekend.

The celebration of the Armed Forces takes place on June Saturday 25 and Sunday 26.

Armed Forces Day is a chance for the public to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans, and cadets.

Armed forces personnel wearing their uniform, carrying a military ID card and veterans wearing a veteran’s badge or medals will be entitled to ride for free on any Stagecoach bus as a show of support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

With events planned across the region, including Carlisle and Workington, as well as hundreds of smaller gatherings across the UK, it is hoped that personnel will take up the offer to travel across their local regions to the event of their choice.

On Saturday, June 25, The Armed Forces Day event, organised by Carlisle City Council, will be held between 10am and 4pm and will include representatives from organisations including the Cumbria Museum of Military Life, the Military Vehicles Trust, Devil’s Porridge Museum, and the Royal British Legion.

It will also include live music provided by the Border Concert Band and Carlisle mayor, Mike Mitchelson will present a citation of appreciation to the armed forces at 3.30pm, which will be received by the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.

In Workington, tea and coffee will be available at the Workington Royal British Legion club from 10.00am followed by a parade starting from the centre of the town; marching through the town to the Memorial in Vulcans Park.

There will be a short service followed by the march back through the town culminating with a full day of activities at the club.

Rob Jones, managing director for Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire said: “We are sending a clear and proud message to all our armed forces communities that we appreciate all their hard work, their bravery, and their commitment to serving our country.

“We hope that personnel choosing to travel to a local event will have an enjoyable day and we are delighted to show our appreciation for their commitment to our country.”

In 2015, Stagecoach Group signed the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Corporate Covenant in support of the Armed Forces Community.

As a signatory of the Covenant, the company recognises the value of serving personnel; regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to both the country and businesses across the country.
