A Cumbrian-based travel agency has reopened their stores following teams working from home throughout lockdown.
Cumbria Travel – which has three offices, one in Whitehaven, Workington and Carlisle – reopened this week after closing down on March 23.
Although they closed down with the rest of the country, staff have been working hard through lockdown to support and assist customers facing uncertainty throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leanne Miller, co-director of the travel firm, said: “We were delighted to be able to re-open all of the Cumbria Travel locations this week, after having most of our team working at home since March so it was lovely to see them returning to their stores.
“For us it was so important to be able to offer our customers a continuous service throughout all of this, as we were aware there were customers out there booked with other Travel companies who were struggling to speak to anyone.
“As local girls, running a locally owned company we understand the importance of community and continue to provide our customers with the best possible service from day one of lockdown.”
Since Cumbria Travel was established by Leanne and Tricia Rickerby in 2015 the business has improved year on year and been nominated for and won several awards.
The Cumbrian agency recently received news they had been awarded a Travel Industry Award by being named by the TTG (Travel Trade Gazette) in their Top 50 UK Travel Agents.
An extremely proud Tricia said: “We were overwhelmed to be named runner up in the North West Category, this is a huge Travel Award with agents from all over the UK competing to make the Top 50 list and a team of industry experts acting as judges scoring us on service, appearance, community, marketing and much more.
“Further to this our Dunmail Park shop was named the runner up for the second year running for North West England and we were the only agent in Cumbria to make the Final with our Carlisle shop also reaching the Final 5 for The North West, to say we are proud is an understatement”.
During lockdown the Cumbria Travel owners learned they are finalists for the County Brides 2020 North West Wedding Awards in the Travel Agent category.
Tricia said: “This is even more special as its voted for by our customers who have experienced our services whether that be arranging their wedding, honeymoon or even hen and stag parties.
“We will find out on September 9, if we have won, so fingers crossed, but we are still just as delighted for the nomination.”
For now the company is looking forward to helping customers following the disappointments faced during the COVID crisis and hopefully continue with the growth in sales for the next year.
Leanne explained: “We have lots of customers eager to book and take advantage of some of the best prices we have seen in years.
“People have really got behind the #SupportLocal Campaign they want to shop local and keep their money in the local community which is such a positive for us and we honestly can’t thank our customers enough for their continued support, it really does mean everything.”
With offices now open in Whitehaven, Workington and Carlisle the company has reopened with precautions in place and are limiting the number of people in each of the offices.
