Three men have been arrested as part of an arson investigation after a fire tore through the former Workington nightclub, Fusion, last night.
Cumbria Police were alerted to a large fire shortly before 11pm yesterday, 30 May, at the former nightclub on Ladies Walk and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Services required eight appliances to fight the blaze.
Three men have now been arrested on suspicion of arson. They are: a 28-year-old man from Workington, 21-year-old man from Whitehaven and 20-year-old man from Workington – all three remain in custody for questioning.
The fire has caused significant damage to the building and roof beams have been left fully exposed.
Fire fighters as far north as Carlisle and as far south as Egremont were called in to fight the fire which raged through the building.
Residents were evacuated from their homes on Ladies Walk and Coopers Walk and Carlisle East Fire Station confirmed one man was rescued from the former nightclub building.
Police ask for anyone with information to contact them on 101 and ask to speak to officer from the West Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team.
Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
