The UK’s newest national treasure has turned 100 today.
Captain Tom Moore has walked his way into the nation’s hearts after setting out to walk a 100 lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday.
Originally setting out to raise £1000 for the NHS the WW2 veteran has hit over £30 million and has been recognised world wide for his achievement.
Captain Moore is now a double Guinness World Record holder for most money raised for charity walk and oldest person to hold a UK number one, for his cover of You’ll Never Walk Alone with Michael Ball and the NHS Voice Choir.
The Royal Mail have issued a special postmark and have placed a NHS blue postbox in Marlston Moretaine, Bedfordshire near Captain Moore’s home.
WWE champion Drew McIntyre has gifted the Captain a custom WWE title while F1’s Lando Norris sent his helmet and called the captain a hero and he has been made an honorary member of the England cricket team.
Copeland has got in on the celebrations too after Sunny Hill, Whitehaven painted a mural to the Captain a second has been added on New Road by Chris Underwood and Rob Carr.
Thomas Cheung, the founder of Y-Tea and Déjà Brew in Cleator Moor, sent the veteran a card and some of his Y-Tea brand tea to relax for his birthday.
While there are calls for Captain Moore to be knighted, he is now the first honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College Harrogate.
Next week ITV will be showing Captain Tom’s War on Friday, May 8 as part of their VE Day celebrations.
