The West Pier of Whitehaven Harbour has been closed until further notice after Storm Boelo ripped power cable loose.
Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners have made the decision to close the West Pier due to the damage done by Storm Boelo.

A spokesperson for the Harbour Commission said: “Please do not attempt to access West Pier under any circumstances.
“The closure is in place for your own safety.
“The storm has ripped out the power cable running along the pier.
“The power has been isolated, and we are working to make the area safe.
“The pier will remain closed while the cable is recovered from the water and returned to its proper position.
“This is not a quick process, and the pier will remain closed until it is safe to reopen.”
They have also asked parents to remind their children of the potential danger adding: “With half-term underway, we know that children and young people may be tempted to visit the pier to fish.
“Please speak to your children about the dangers and make sure they understand that the pier is strictly out of bounds.
“Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep everyone safe.”
