Another packed weekend of food, drink and family fun is coming back to Maryport this weekend as tens of thousands of people are expected at the Taste Cumbria festival.

It will be held on Saturday, August, 8 and Sunday 9, over two sites – the Harbourside event space, created as part of Cumberland Council’s £12 million regeneration of the town, and the big Marine Road Showfield.

One of the stars of the show this year is TV chef Rosemary Shrager who will be appearing on the Demo Stage at 11am on the Saturday.

Her demonstration is free to attend there will be plenty of samples to enjoy.

Visitors to the event on Sunday, August 9,will get a chance to see an international cycling trophy – set to be presented to the host of the next Tour de France Grand Départ in 2027.

As part of the build-up to the Grand Départ coming to Cumberland next July, there is an opportunity to find out more about the Tour de France as part of a planned programme of Trophy Tour visits.

A Stage One finish in Carlisle and a Stage Two start in Keswick is confirmed for the 2027 Tour De France.

In addition, the Maryport Classic Car and Vintage Vehicle Show takes place on the Saturday at Netherhall Rugby Club and a bus will run from 10am to 4pm between there and the Taste Cumbria site so visitors can easily attend the two great events.

A Demo Stage is on the Harbourside Event Space will also host The Teenage Market and live music on the Palace Stage.

Over on the Marine Road Showfield there will be the Producers’ Market, hot food court, the festival bar run by Maryport Round Table, the main music stage and loads of children’s entertainment.

There will be hot and cold food to eat, and the chance to buy seafood fresh from the Chelaris boat, weather permitting. Entertainment will include sea shanty bands, storytelling and roaming street theatre.

The Taste Cumbria events are organised by Cumberland Council.

Michael Barry, Cumberland Council’s Assistant Director of Thriving Places, said: “The Taste Cumbria festivals just keep getting better and better.

“I can’t wait to see what Rosemary Shrager will be cooking up – and tasting the results too.

“There will also be more producers’ stalls at the event than ever before, and the chance to support some brilliant initiatives like The Teenage Market.

“The Tour de France trophy will be another great attraction which should really get people into the cycling mood ahead of the Tour of Britain opening stage which starts in Cockermouth on Wednesday, August 19.

“All we need now is the sunshine and we’re all set for another brilliant weekend.”
