West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Cumbria sides in action as leagues enter penultimate month

Cumbria’s county sides were in action as they look to make the quarterfinals while the Mixed Triples and Fours leagues enter the penultimate month.

West Cumbria Fours League

Workington A extended their lead to 8 on Friday, July 10, with a 7-0 win over their B team.

Third placed Fitz Park are only 8 points behind Whitehaven A after a 7-0 win at home to Vulcan Park while Cleator Moor are now only 4 points ahead of Maryport after losing 5-2 to them.

While Harris Park came away from Seaton with a 4.5-2.5 win after finishing on equal shots.

Leaders Workington A host Seaton on Friday, July 17, as Whitehaven A welcome Maryport while Keswick side Fitz Park head to Cockermouth club Harris Park.

Cleator Moor take on Whitehaven B and Workington B make the short trip to Vulcan Park.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

The league returned to the fore on Tuesday, July 7, with clubs closing the gap to Harris Park A as the penultimate month of fixtures got under way.

Whitehaven A moved to within 3 points of top spot with a 6-3 win at Wigton as Workington’s two teams are a point further back.

A 7-2 win for Workington A at home to Maryport puts them half a point ahead of Workington B who lost 6-3 at Cockermouth club Croft.

Up to eighth and 8 points off top are Egremont after a 7-2 home win over Seaton while Seascale’s 5-4 win at Vulcan Park B take them to eighth.

Harris Park B have moved up the table with a 9-0 at home to Cleator Moor.

Leaders Harris Park A match at Whitehaven B was postponed.

The top two meet on Tuesday, July 14, as Harris Park A host Whitehaven A while both Workington teams will be looking to take over if there is a close result in Cockermouth.

Second placed Workington A head to Seaton and third placed Workington B welcome Wigton.

Maryport will be looking to bouncy back when they host Cleator Moor while Egremont can surpass last seasons total against Whitehaven B.

A win for Seascale at home to Vulcan Park A can push them up into the title race while Vulcan Park B play Harris Park B.

Cumbria County Teams

Cumbria’s Middleton Cup team made the trip to Lancashire on Saturday, July 11, as the Women’s Johns Trophy welcomed Yorkshire.

With Durham having played all four of their matches sit on 45 points with Cumbria five points behind on 40 and Yorkshire in third are on 37 and Lancashire have 30 points.

Cumbria knew what they needed to do against Lancashire while Yorkshire travel to Northumberland knowing a Cumbria defeat and win for them would send them into the quarterfinals.

Lancashire sent them away with an 18-4 (106-78) while Yorkshire won 16-6 (89-107) to top the group.

The women’s John’s Trophy welcomed Yorkshire knowing a win or close defeat would make them Northern champions and one game away from the National Finals.

In a close match Cumbria lost the rinks 4-8 but with 10 points on offer for an overall shots win the Cumbrians could still top the group.

With two shots in it Cumbria were on the wrong side as they lost 94-96 as Yorkshire took first place.
