A West Cumbrian cricketer has been described as ‘a shining example of what passion, hard work, and the right opportunities can achieve’ as they made their T20 debut.
Olivia Brinsden received her debut cap from Tara Norris as the 20-year-old made her first-team debut on Sunday, June 21, at Neston Cricket Club against Bucks Cricket in the Vitality County T20 Cup.

Brinsden came through the ranks at Egremont Cricket Club with club ‘incredibly proud’ to see her make the step to Lancashire’ T20 first team.
A spokesperson for the West Cumbrian club said: “We are incredibly proud to see Olivia’s cricket career continue to go from strength to strength. From her early days developing here at Egremont CC to making her first‑team debut for Lancashire in the Vitality County T20 Cup.
“Olivia’s journey is a shining example of what passion, hard work, and the right opportunities can achieve. She came through Cumbria’s age group pathway, represented her county at every level, and became the first female academy graduate from our region.”
Brinsden has been part of Lancashire’s academy since Under-14s, as one of the inaugural academy cohorts, a team she has even captained.
She has also played representative cricket for Cumbria, making her the first female academy graduate from the region.
Initially, Brinsden came through Cumbria’s County Age Group set-up, representing her local county from Under-13s all the way up to Under-18s.
She’s also played for Cumbria’s first team alongside her time in Lancashire’s academy.
It is not just Lancashire and Cumbria who have noticed the ability of the 20-year-old.
She was part of England Under-19s T20 World Cup squad last January.
Egremont Cricket Club added: “But for us as a club, this is more than a success story.
“It’s a reminder of why women’s and girls’ cricket means so much to Egremont CC.
“For over a decade, we’ve worked to build a welcoming, ambitious pathway for female players, supported by volunteers, community partners, and the ECB.
“Seeing Olivia thrive at the highest levels shows exactly why that investment matters.
“It proves what’s possible for girls who pick up a bat for the first time at Gillfoot Park.”
Cumbria players are observed through their County Age Group pathway, with several players having attended sessions at Emirates Old Trafford as part of our Thunder Observation sessions.
Players can progress onto our Emerging Player Programme (EPP) and subsequently Academy group, whilst representing Cumbria Women’s Tier 3 team, just as Brinsden has done over the last few years.
The spokesperson added “Olivia, everyone at Egremont CC is behind you.
“You inspire our players, our coaches, and the next generation of girls who dream of following in your footsteps.”
