West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Fours League reaches halfway as Cumbria take on county rivals

The Fours League has reached the halfway point as Cumbria county teams take on Northern counties for a places at the National Finals.

West Cumbria Fours League

The season has hit the halfway mark on Friday, June 19.

Leaders Workington A remain top by a point after a 7-0 win over Vulcan Park while Whitehaven A came away from Cleator Moor with a 7-0 win.

Harris Park occupy fifth after a 4-3 defeat at Whitehaven B while Workington B lost 4-3 at home to Maryport.

Third placed Fitz Park’ game with Seaton was postponed.

Closing out June on Friday 26, Workington A host Whitehaven B and Whitehaven A welcome Harris Park.

Fourth placed Cleator Moor play third placed Fitz Park.

Maryport will look to take fifth place when they play Vulcan Park and Seaton will be wanting to swap positions with Workington B when the sides meet.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

Cockermouth side Harris Park A kept their good run going with a 6-3 win against Wigton on Tuesday, June 16, as they extended their lead at the top of the table.

Maryport moved up to joint second after a 7-2 victory over Seascale while Egremont are having an excellent season as they have almost reached last seasons points with a 9-0 win at home to Harris Park B.

Whitehaven B did not have a happy trip as they lost 7-2 to Seaton while Croft completed the set of home wins in this round with a 7-2 win against Vulcan Park A.

Two games were postponed as players from Workington B and Workington A were involved in National competitions.

Leaders Harris Park A travel to Cleator Moor on Tuesday, June 23, as Maryport host Workington B and Egremont play at Workington A.

Whitehaven A welcome Workington side Vulcan Park B while Vulcan Park A host Wigton.

Cockermouth side Croft travel to Seascale and Harris Park B welcome Seaton.

Cumbria County Teams

It was a busy weekend for Cumbria’s county teams as they were involved in multiple competitions.

The Women’s Johns Trophy played their second match on Saturday, June 20, at Northumberland.

In a tight match it was Cumbria that came out on top after both side won three rinks each, the overall shots gave them a 90-97 win to take the game 6-16.

In the other match Yorkshire won 20-2 at home to Durham.

Cumbria welcome Yorkshire on Saturday, July 11, as Durham host Northumberland.

The Men’s Middleton Cup team were also in action on Saturday 20, as they took on Northumberland.

Having beat Durham in their first game they followed this up with a 18-4 (109-84) win to sit second.

Leaders Durham beat Lancashire 18-4.

Cumbria travel to Yorkshire on Saturday, July 4, for their penultimate game while Durham head to Northumberland for their final game.

Cumbria’s young players were hoping to book their place at the National Finals in the White Rose Trophy on Sunday, June 21.

Playing in a round-robin league the side would play Durham, Northumberland, Lancashire and Yorkshire in Pairs and Triples through the day.

The day got off to a good start as Cumbria side won 6-0 with Harry Creighton and Taylor Johnston taking the Pairs and Bailey Potts, Cayden Corrigan and Ryan Corkill won the Triples.

Durham took the game against Cumbria 4-2 as they won the Pairs 16-10 while Cumbria won the Triples 11-10.

A 4-2 win against Lancashire left the young side in second with one game left to play.

Sadly for the Cumbrian team they went down 4-2 against Northumberland as Durham went on to book their place at the National Finals.
