Cumbria Health and Growing Well launch mental health partnership

Cumbria Health and charity Growing Well has launched a partnership to support communities in Cumbria.

Good mental health is fundamental to overall health and wellbeing, and for many people, recovery and resilience are strengthened through connection, purpose and being part of their local community.

Through this partnership, patients supported by Cumbria Health will be able to access Growing Well’s horticulture-based therapeutic services at Tebay and Egremont.

Mary Smith, CEO at Growing Well: “This partnership supports the 2025 NHS ten-year plan to reach people earlier and make more care available on their doorsteps.

“We are two social enterprises already committed to this approach, based in the heart of our Cumbrian communities.

“We are excited to formalise and strengthen our partnership with Cumbria Health, with the support of The National Lottery Community Fund.

“Quicker routes into both our services will elevate our individual and collective impact in supporting better population mental health.”

Growing Well’s work supports people to improve their mental wellbeing through meaningful outdoor activity, learning and social connection.

This partnership reflects the shared values between both organisations and commitment to supporting people in ways that feel local, personal and rooted in their community.

Ross Brand, Chief Executive at Cumbria Health said: ‘This partnership with Growing Well is exactly the kind of thing Cumbria Health wants to support.

“By working alongside a trusted local organisation, we can help people access support within their own communities, improving wellbeing, building confidence and reducing isolation.

“Healthcare is about much more than treating illness, and partnerships, like this show how local organisations can work together to make a real difference for people across Cumbria.’

Anyone can refer themselves to Growing Well via their website here, or have their GP refer them.

The referral process is quick and straightforward, and people can be starting their mental health recovery at Growing Well in as little as 2-weeks.

There is no eligibility criteria and it is entirely free to attend, and Growing Well can also provide free transport and a healthy lunch each day.

This work is made possible thanks to funding Growing Well has received from The National Lottery Community Fund, helping extend access to this vital support for communities across Cumbria. We’re proud to be working together to support mental health and wellbeing across our communities.
