Schools competition bowls over younger generation

Over thirty school children were invited to take part in a competition by Egremont Town Bowling Club.

Children from Thornhill, Orgill, St Bridgets and Bookwell primary schools attended the day long competition on Wednesday, May 20.

Joined by club members David, Gregg, Pauline, Sheila, Barbara and Alison the school pupils spent the day on the bowling green.

The day was spilt into three sessions with the school being assigned a club member to help.

First up the children were taught how to bowl, which side faces in, standing on the mat, how to aim and how to score.

Then they got down to the competition with each school split into two teams of four for the three games.

The winner would be the school with the highest combined score.

After three rounds of thrilling competition Thornhill edged out St Bridget’s to take home the trophy.
