Cumbrian tailor Redmayne 1860 has been named on King’s Award for Enterprise list

Pioneering Cumbrian tailor Redmayne 1860 has won the coveted King’s Award for Enterprise.

These are the UK’s most prestigious business awards, offering recipients global acknowledgment that their company is outstanding in its field.

Winners use the Awards’ emblem as an internationally recognised endorsement.

Redmayne 1860 won a King’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category.

Redmayne 1860 is one of Cumbria’s oldest tailoring businesses and an internationally recognised bespoke tailor, with origins dating back to 1860.

The company is based in Carlisle, where all bespoke garments are cut and made in‑house

Claire Mahon, Managing Director, said ‘To receive The King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade is a tremendous honour for all of us here at Redmayne.

“As a Cumbrian firm with over 160 years of heritage, it is a particularly proud moment not only for British craftsmanship, but for the tradition of craftsmanship here in Cumbria.

“This recognition belongs to our entire team, young and old, and to our next generation of craftsmen and women who are carrying our Redmayne’s legacy forward.

“Above all, our sincere thanks go to our clients around the world, whose loyalty, support, and appreciation of our commitment to excellence make our work possible.”

The tailoring company has just returned from the USA.

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr. Alexander Scott said: “I am delighted that one of Cumbria’s outstanding companies has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise 2026.

“This is an exceptional achievement and I congratulate everyone involved.

“These awards require a very high degree of achievement and are both difficult to attain and highly prestigious.

“They highlight excellence  and demonstrate that here in Cumbria we have world-class companies.

“More Cumbrian businesses, whatever their size, should aspire to this recognition and I hope that they will take up the challenge.

“Previous winners confirm that the standing of the Award brings tangible benefits to their business and the Lieutenancy is ready to help and advise business owners who would like to know more.”
