Taste Cumbria: Wigton to become centre of Cumbrian food, drink and music for a day

Taste Cumbria rolls into Wigton making it the centre of the Cumbrian food, drink, crafts and gifts, family fun and live music scene for a day.

From 10am to 5pm on Saturday, April 25, everyone will be able to enjoy the free attractions right in the heart of the town, designed to boost the local economy and give visitors a great day out.

The Producers’ Market, hot food court, music stage, climbing wall and children’s rides will be located in Water Street car park, while the neighbouring Market Hall will host a craft market packed with local traders.

On the festival site

There will be children’s entertainment from the fabulous Liam Moorhouse, and Wilmot’s Attractions will bring their climbing wall and fairground rides for young children.

Live music will take place all day and there will be hot food and drink, and cold beers and cocktails, to enjoy in the picnic area.

Those attending the festival by car can park for free at the Nelson Thomlinson School’s sports hall and there are loads of great independent businesses to explore across the town too.

The Taste Cumbria food festivals are organised by Cumberland Council. Councillor Anne Quilter, the Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said: “This is going to be a brilliant day of free foodie fun, right in the heart of one of our lovely towns. 

“It’s always great to be in Wigton and Taste Cumbria is back for the sixth time this year.

“There’s a great atmosphere, particularly around the music stage, where you’ll probably spot a few visitors having a bit of a dance too. Here’s hoping for sunny weather and another great event.”

Getting here

Wigton can be got to by rail using the coastal train line that runs between Barrow and Carlisle.

Parking

If you’re coming to Taste Cumbria in Wigton by car, Nelson Thomlinson School is kindly allowing us to use their car park on High Street as a Park-and-Walk.

If you’re parking on the street, please check local signs for restrictions.

You’ll need a timing disc for street parking – these are available from many local businesses.

Taste Cumbria Wigton will be followed by Taste Cumbria Maryport on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August, before the flagship Taste Cumbria festival in Cockermouth on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.

Taste Cumbria Christmas on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December, also in Cockermouth, will end the year, with plans for Taste Cumbria in Carlisle still being finalised.
