The Andrea Buggy Women’s League 2026 has started with a new side joining the league as the club starts in journey into women’s football.

Carlisle City Women have taken to the field in the 9 a side league and started off with a bang against former Women’s North West Regional side Carlisle United Ladies on Wednesday, April 15.

An Abigail Telford double helped City onto a 6-0 win with Kali Hood, Lauren Ullyart, Katie Sibley and Chelsea Murray all scoring.

Whitehaven AFC Ladies have two teams in the league as the West Cumbrian team continue to push women and girls football in the area.

The Whitehaven Ladies Blue side travelled to Silloth where they faced Abbeytown Ladies, they however left with no points as Abbie Woodburn, Brooke Reynolds and Laura Taylor gave Abbeytown a 3-0 win.

Abbeytown Manager Jackson Slack spoke about the match saying: “We came across eager and had a sense of hunger about us. We knew it was going to be a tough test, but every player proved their worth and that’s all I can ask for as a coach. They took on instructions throughout the game and we managed it really well, coming up strong in both defence and attack.”

Whitehaven AFC Ladies Yellow did not fair any better as Vickerstown Ladies left The County Ground with a 0-1 win thanks to a Lauren Benson goal.

Xtreme Fitness Ladies started their season with a 2-0 win over Workington Town Wildcats with Eden Hetherington getting both goals.

On Wednesday, April 22, the teams all play return fixtures with Carlisle United Ladies hosting Carlisle City Women, Whitehaven AFC Ladies Blue welcome Abbeytown, Vickerstown Ladies face Whitehaven AFC Ladies Yellow and Workington Town Wildcats take on Xtreme Fitness Ladies.
