Organisers of Egremont Winter Wonderland have announced they are stepping down after more than 15 years and have appealed for new volunteers to continue the annual event.
Planning for this year’s event has been underway for some time as members of Egremont Amenity Committee said preparations for Christmas begin months in advance.

The Winter Wonderland has taken place for more than 15 years, with only Covid and adverse weather forcing cancellations.
It has attracted thousands of visitors, showcased local talent and crafts, and provided a festive event for all ages.
The committee was originally formed to improve the town’s Christmas lights and went on to develop the annual Winter Wonderland.
However, several members decided to step down due to the time and commitment involved.
Elaine Woodburn, committee chairperson, said she and Geraldine Pritchard had been involved since the group was formed, following on from her mother, Margaret Woodburn, and others including Doreen Platt.
She said the event had grown year on year and now attracted thousands, but added: “After working on this for 15 years it is time to give others the opportunity to come forward with their ideas and carry on.”
She also thanked those who had supported the event. She said: “We have some great memories and are proud to leave this on a high”.
Remaining members said more volunteers were needed if the event was to continue.
Sam Pollen said Debby Byrne, who had joined the group, had been “a great addition” but had also stepped down.
He added: “If this event is to continue, we need volunteers to help”.
Gareth Stringer said: “There must be loads here in Egremont who don’t want to lose the Winter Wonderland so please get in touch”.
