West Cumbrian café rebrands ahead of new Asian-inspired evening dining launch

A West Cumbrian café has rebranded with a new identity and refreshed interiors as it prepares to launch Asian-inspired evening dining and cocktails.

The Egremont cafe, formerly known as Deja Brew, rebranded as Olive Social, marking the next step in the business’s journey.

With the rebrand complete, Olive Social is now preparing for its most exciting chapter yet – introducing an evening menu in the coming months, featuring Asian-inspired tapas and cocktails.

The owner, Thomas Cheung, said the expansion “will bring a new social experience to Egremont, blending modern Asian flavours with the welcoming atmosphere the café is known for”.

“This rebrand isn’t just about a new name,” Mr Cheung explained. “It’s about evolving with our customers and community. Olive Social will continue to be a place for good food and friendly faces, but we’re also excited to bring something fresh to Egremont in the months ahead.”

With the rebrand, the cafe itself has had the interiors refreshed and now features olive green tones, white marble tables, and tan leather seating.

The business was opened in 2020, just weeks before the first national Covid lockdown.

But, in five years, it has grown into a community hub and remains a popular independent spot for coffee, brunch, and its signature bubble tea.

In fact, Olive Social holds a special local legacy – it was the first café in Cumbria to serve bubble tea, a trend that continues to be a customer favourite to this day.

Mr Cheung said he has long been passionate about bringing new ideas to Cumbria.

Before Olive Social, he founded Y-Tea of the Lake District, a luxury loose-leaf tea brand he started from his workshop in Cleator Moor at just 22 years old, which he later successfully sold.
