A West Cumbrian primary school will remain closed an extra day for “essential work” following a gas leak.

Thornhill Primary School confirmed it would be closed on Monday (July 8), following the discovery of a gas leak on Friday (July 5).

The closure was to allow specialist engineers to locate the gas leak.

The school has now made a further update to the situation explaining it will remain closed on Tuesday (July 9).

In a social media statement it was announced: “Due to essential works being carried out tomorrow, school will be CLOSED on Tuesday 9th July.

“Parents/carers will have received an email and text earlier this afternoon.”

The statement also said staff “anticipate” the school will reopen on Wednesday (July 10).

The Herdwick News contacted Thornhill Primary School for further comment.
