Difficult Round For Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides

Cumbria’s rugby union sides found it difficult in the regional leagues as they all failed to register a win.

It is still close at the top of Regional 1 North West and after a week off the sides returned to league action on Saturday, November 4, as Blackburn won 64-17 against Penrith, Rossendale beat Stockport 40-10 and Macclesfield won on the road beating Leek 11-24.

Kendal went down 19-12 at Anselmians as Sandbach moved off the bottom with a 24-12 win at home to Manchester and Wirral were victorious against Northwich winning 15-7.

The Cumbrian sides are both at home as Kendal host Wirral and Penrith play Anselmians, leaders Blackburn travel to Macclesfield and Rossendale head to Manchester.

Stockport face Leek and Northwich welcome Sandbach.

There were two draws in Regional 2 North as Cumbrian sides Upper Eden and Cockermouth couldn’t be separated with a 10-10 score line on Saturday, November 4, while West Hartlepool held Middlesbrough to a 29-29 draw.

Aspatria lost 30-23 at Consett with Keswick also getting beat 22-15 at Stockton, leaders Percy Park won 22-29 at Durham City and Northern moved into second with a 12-29 win at Morpeth.

Saturday, November 11, Percy Park host Stockton as Northern face Consett while Middlesbrough play Durham City.

Cumbria’s sides face off as Keswick welcome Upper Eden, Aspatria take on West Hartlepool and Cockermouth play Morpeth.

In Regional 2 North West Birkenhead Park won 29-10 against Douglas (I.O.M) and Bowden beat Crewe & Nantwich 29-21 on Saturday, November 4, to go top as joint leaders.

Firwood Waterloo lost 35-17 to Burnage as a six point gap opens up at the top of the table.

Vale of Lune lost 23-21 at Winnington Park while Liverpool St Helens were beaten 20-14 by Whitchurch and Altrincham Kersal ran out 41-20 winners against Kirkby Lonsdale.

Both the leaders of the league are on the road as Bowden head to Douglas (I.O.M) and Birkenhead Park travel to Firwood Waterloo on Saturday, November 11, while Crewe & Nantwich host Winnington Park.

At the bottom of the table Vale of Lune play Whitchurch as Liverpool St Helens take on Altrincham Kersal and Kirkby Lonsdale welcome Burnage.

Carlisle have continued their unbeaten run in the Cumbria league with a 5-49 at Workington on Saturday, November 4, while second placed St Benedicts beat Millom 37-12 to open up a seven point gap to third after Aspatria 2nd lost 15-61 Wigton.

Egremont ran out 3-33 winners at Whitehaven and Keswick 2nd were beaten by a point in a 20-21 defeat to Hawcoat Park.

The rugby was set to start early as Penrith 2nd were to host Aspatria 2nd but the game was awarded to Penrith.

On Remembrance Day, Saturday 11, Carlisle welcome Wigton while St Benedicts head to Keswick 2nd.

Whitehaven play Windermere, Egremont head to Creighton and Hawcoat Park face Workington.
