Penrith Claim League Title As Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides Head In Final Games

One league title has been claimed as Penrith wrapped up the Regional North 2 as the season heads into the final games of the season.

The current leaders of the North West Division have one game left and a 42 point advantage over second.

League leaders Lymm beat Manchester 7-36 on March 4 to keep their title hopes alive as second placed Blackburn picked up a 15-35 win at Stockport.

In the battle for third Rossendale hold the advantage after a 61-28 win over Kendal as Sandbach stayed in touch with a 36-29 win over Burnage.

Macclesfield beat Wirral 45-24 while Northwich were 51-8 victors against Kirkby Lonsdale.

On March 11 Lymm play their final game of the season at home Northwich knowing victory could seal them top spot, Blackburn host Wirral needing a win to take it their final game.

Sandbach head to Kendal while Rossendale travel to Kirkby Lonsdale, Burnage face Stockport and Macclesfield take on Manchester.

In Regional 2 North Penrith have been crowned league champions after a 100-0 win over Consett in March 4 kept them fourteen points ahead of Morpeth with two games left.

Second placed Morpeth did their part with a 0-62 win at South Shields Westoe to try and keep their title fight alive, Northern lost a close match 12-14 to Durham City and Aspatria lost 16-33 to Percy Park.

Middlesbrough ran out 68-6 winners at home to Stockton and in the last Cumbrian derby of the season Keswick secured a 20-15 win against Carlisle.

There is a slightly messy end to the season, the last full fixture list takes place on March 11.

Penrith finish their season away to Durham City, Morpeth take on Stockton and Northern travel to Percy Park.

Carlisle face South Shields Westoe, Keswick head to Consett and Middlesbrough host Aspatria.

In Conference 1 Upper Eden have extended their lead at the top of the league with a 76-3 win over Egremont as second placed Cockermouth were held to a 22-22 draw at Millom on March 4.

The game between Whitehaven and Wigton was awarded to the away team.

On March 11 Egremont host Cockermouth, Upper Eden head to Wigton and Whitehaven face Millom.

In Conference 2 on March 4 Hawcoat Park extended their lead at the top with a 29-31 win at Workington as Penrith II lost 25-22 at Creighton.

St Benedicts were awarded the points against Silloth.

On March 11 Creighton take on Workington, Penrith II host St Benedicts and Hawcoat Park travel to Silloth.
