Surprises And Plenty Of Goals In The Lancashire FA Women’s County Leagues

The Lancashire FA Women’s County League is heating up after the last round of matches.

Division One returned with a bang on January 29 as Lancaster City held free scoring Whitehaven AFC to a 3-2 defeat.

Chipping could not take advantage as their game with Kendal Town was postponed and St. Annes were held to a 3-3 draw by Blackpool.

Sunday February 5 Kendal Town host Whitehaven AFC in what will be a fierce Cumbrian derby as Whitehaven ran out 15-0 winners.

Chipping will be hoping Kendal hold Whitehaven as they head to Blackpool, Lancaster City face Cadley and Sir Tom Finney play St. Annes.

In Division One South/East on January 29 league leaders Horwich beat Lostock 3-0 to stay on top as Euxton kept pace with them as they did the double over Astley Bridge with a 0-5 win.

Darwen moved into fifth with a 5-0 win over Clitheroe as AFC Wigan’s 3-2 win over Bury FC moved them off the bottom of the table.

The top two are back in action on February 5 as Horwich host AFC Wigan and Euxton welcome Darwen.

Third place Penwortham Town head to Clitheroe and fourth place Astley Bridge host Bury looking to take advantage of any slip from the top two.

All matches are a 2pm (14:00) kickoff.

The Premier Division returned with three fixtures on January 29.

There were three big wins as Accrington Stanley recorded a 5-1 win over Clitheroe Wolves, Burnley Belvedere picked up a 3-0 win against Darwen FC and Langho were beaten 0-10 by Bury FC.

Eight teams are in action on February 5 with Fleetwood Town travelling to Clitheroe knowing a win would take them into first place.

Third placed Stanwix head to Bury, Burnley face Accrington and Langho host Darwen.

All matches are a 2pm (14:00) kickoff.

All four games were played in the Championship on January 29.

League leaders GT7 went down 4-2 to Preston North End as they hit a rough patch with two defeats in the last three.

The chasing pack closed in as Euxton lost 1-2 to third placed Bolton Wanderers and second placed Blackpool left Penrith with all three point after a 2-3 win.

Fleetwood and Bolton County swapped placed after Fleetwood lost 2-3.

The league leaders GT7 will be looking to get back to winning ways on February 5 when they head to Bolton Wanderers, Morecambe host Euxton and Preston North End face Penrith.
