Cumbrian Rugby Union Sides Band Together Ahead Of Penultimate Game Of 2022

After the shocking news from Penrith about the death of former captain Ryan Johnson Cumbrian rugby union sides have banded together in support with many clubs and supporters donating or raising funds ahead of this weeks round.

On Saturday December 3 in Regional 1 North West the league leaders Blackburn extended their lead with a 68-12 win against Burnage as third placed Rossendale beat Lymm 36-14 to move two points behind.

Northwich picked up a 38-35 win over Macclesfield while Wirral sent Manchester away with a 32-25 defeat.

The Cumbrian sides both return with losses as Sandbach won 106-14 against Kirkby Lonsdale while Stockport sent Kendal home with a 26-19 defeat.

In the penultimate round before the Christmas and New Year break on December 10 Kendal host Blackburn and Kirkby Lonsdale take on Stockport.

Second placed Lymm will be hosting fourth placed Sandbach as third placed Rossendale head to Macclesfield.

Manchester face Northwich and Burnage play Wirral.

Regional 2 North division Penrith’s match with Percy Park was postponed after the death of former 1st team Captain and Cumbria County player Ryan Johnson while at training.

On December 3 Morpeth beat Carlisle 71-6 while Keswick lost 16-32 at home to Durham City.

It wasn’t all bad for Cumbrian sides as Aspatria came back with a 17-37 win over Stockton, South Shields Westoe lost 17-30 to Consett and Northern won 32-5 against Middlesbrough.

On December 10, Morpeth host Consett while Penrith head to Middlesbrough, Durham City play South Shields Westoe, Carlisle face Stockton, Northern travel to Aspatria and Keswick make the trip to Percy Park.

The two unbeaten sides the Cumbria League met on December 3 with only one record left standing.

Upper Eden made it ten from ten with a 29-0 win over second placed Egremont as Cockermouth moved a point behind with a 12-29 away at Wigton and in the other game Whitehaven beat Creighton 20-6.

The game between Penrith II and Millom was postponed while Silloth and Hawcoat Park match is a home win.

The final round before the Christmas and New Year break Egremont take on Whitehaven, Creighton face Wigton, Cockermouth host Workington, St Benedicts travel to Hawcoat Park and Millom play Silloth.
