Review: The Old Man Disney+ Series Ticks All Boxes

By Gray

The first two episodes of The Old Man are streaming now on Disney+ with new episodes released on Wednesday in the 7 episode first series.

The synopsis for the series says “A former CIA officer who’s living off the grid finds himself on the run from people who want to kill him.”

The Old Man is based on the novel by Thomas Perry.

Incredible first two episodes, some of the best acting I have seen in a long time.

I can’t wait for more if all episodes were on now, I would probably watch them all tonight instead of going to bed – not a recommendation.

The first two episodes are Directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man Trilogy 2017, 2019 and 2021), it will be interesting to see Episode 3 when it is handed over to another Director.

New series often get a big-name Director to come in and get their Shows going. I just hope that new Directors can fulfil the potential that I believe this Series has.

Unbelievable acting from Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski) just close all the awards now and give them to him, John Lithgow (The Crown) is also really good in his support role, and the two Rottweiler dogs.

He gives them one-word commands like ‘Throat’ – Oh my.

Also, the dog’s names are Dave and Carol which just makes me chuckle.

Production was halted in March 2020 due to governmental restrictions. During that time, Jeff Bridges was diagnosed then treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

When he recuperated, the series went back into production with Bridges referring to the return as going back after a “long weekend” on the Smartlesspodcast in July 2022.

This show deserves as many people watching it as possible. It is not a flashy Superhero series it is a fantastic story with amazing acting.

It is a powerful Drama with plenty of Action and Mystery along the way.

The second episode is a little bit slower than the first one.

The Old Man reminds me of 24 and a bit of John Wick when he is older and retired.

My Rating: 10/10
