Carlisle MP Calls On Cumbrian Professionals To Apply For UK Young Academy

John Stevenson MP for Carlisle calls on local early career professionals to apply for exciting new UK Young Academy.

Today the Carlisle MP encouraged early-career scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs and professionals in Carlisle to apply to join the newly established UK-wide Young Academy.

The UK Young Academy, launched on June 14, will be a network of early career researchers and professionals, which aims to connect emerging leaders and include their voices in local and global policy discussions.

It will bring together early-career researchers, innovators, clinicians, professionals, academics and entrepreneurs to tap into their collective potential and expertise to tackle important issues in society.

They will join the global initiative of Young Academies, with the UK Young Academy becoming the 50th and latest to join the Young Academy movement.

The first members of the UK Young Academy will also get the chance to shape the strategy and focus of the organisation.

Commenting on the Young Academy launch, John Stevenson MP said: “The UK Young Academy will provide a beneficial network of the UK’s best and brightest minds to help tackle some of society’s biggest challenges, from climate change to social inequality.

“By facilitating collaboration between early-career sector- and industry-leaders, we can generate creative and effective policy to put the UK at the forefront of future advances.”

To be eligible for the UK Young Academy, applicants will need to:

  • Be in the early stages of a professional career
  • Have approximately 3-12 years of experience in their field
  • Have a track record of excellence
  • Reside in the UK
