Manchester City’s Georgia Stanway Secures Bayern Munich Move

England and Manchester City player Georgia Stanway will not be gracing the Womens Super League next season.

It has been confirmed today, May 17, after seven years with Manchester City, Cumbrian, Stanway will join the German side Bayern Munich Women.

In an interview for her new club the 23-year-old said: “Honestly, I’m so excited.

“It just feels right. It feels great to be able to share the news and enthusiasm with the world now. I can’t wait to get started and play for such a well-known club.”

The Team GB Olympic player continued saying: “It just felt right from the very first conversation. I was absolutely convinced and my instinct told me that I belong here.

“FC Bayern has very great ambitions and I admire it very much.”

Stanway scored her first international goal directly at her national team debut in 2018, then went on to play in the World Cup and the Olympics. She has represented England a total of 29 times.

Bianca Rech, sports director of FC Bayern Frauen, is very much looking forward to the many strengths that the new Munich woman will bring by at least 2025.

Rech said: “We are very pleased about Georgia’s commitment. She is a very flexible, goal-threatening player and is also characterized by her mentality.

“Furthermore, it is a big sign and positive signal for the league that an English player has chosen Germany and FC Bayern.”

Having joined Man City as a 16 year old Stanway went on to play 186 times for the club, scoring a record 67 goals while winning seven trophies.
