Barrow Raiders Women’s Super League Debut Ends In Defeat

By Robert Haile

Barrow Raiders Ladies made their Women’s Super League debut against Warrington Wolves.

The teams took to the field in Sunday, May 15 as the Super League season started.

Warrington Wolves opened the scoring in the third minute and were 0-8 up before Sam Norman went over for the sides first try as a Super League team with Jodie Litherland adding the extra 2 to bring the score to 6-8.

Sadly for the Raiders that is as good as it got as by half time Warrington were 6-14 up and then at full time were 6-32 winners.

The other opening day games have Leigh Miners Rangers beat 28-14 Wakefield Trinity and Bradford Bulls were beaten 0-30 by Featherstone Rovers.

In Group 2 of the Women’s Super League Barrow will face Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers, Featherstone Rovers, Wakefield Trinty and fellow new team Leigh Miners Rangers.

In Group 1 St Helens beat Wigan 44-0 while the Huddersfield Giants lost 6-50 to York City Knights.

With the leagues having an odd number in each this year Leeds Rhinos from Group 1 and Castleford Tigers in Group 2 have a week off.

Like in the Mens Super League the season will end with a playoff involving the top four from each Group with the Group 2 Shield Final to be played as part of a double header with the Group 1 Grand Final.

The winners of the Shield Final will be promoted to Group 1 for 2023 with no team being relegated to Group 2.
