Hound Hike Returns To Raise Funds For Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw

Dogs and their humans from across Cumbria can raise vital funds for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice simply by walking 50, 100 or 150 kilometres throughout June as part of a special charity challenge.

Dog owners are being called upon to sign-up to the 2022 Hound Hike and help turn those daily walks into funds for the hospice which provides care, love and support for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Every step taken as part of the Hound Hike will help support local families and the fundraising challenge is the paw-fect event for dogs of all sizes and ages as participants choose their target distance to walk during the month.

So, whether it’s an early morning walk around the block, an afternoon stroll in the park, or hillside trek at the weekend, every paw print and wag of the tail will make a difference.

Registration for the event is free, however every dog and human team are asked to pledge to raise £50 for the charity.

Those who sign-up will receive their own ‘doggy do-bag dispenser’, hospice snood, a downloadable paw tracker, sponsor forms and walk ideas.

Participants are encouraged to sign-up to the Hound Hike via Facebook so all the fundraising can then take place through the Facebook Fundraisers feature and they’ll also be able to join the dedicated Hound Hike Facebook group which will be filled with updates.

The group will also be a place for people to talk about their dog’s journey throughout the month with fellow fundraisers.

For those without Facebook, people can sign-up in other ways so they can fundraise in whatever way works best for them, whether this be with paper sponsor forms or a JustGiving page for example.

Eleanor Viney, the hospice’s Fundraising Manager, said: “Following its success last year, we’re delighted that our Hound Hike is returning and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone out and about with their four-legged friends, raising much-needed funds for your local hospice.

“So whether you own a Cocker Spaniel in Carlisle, a Papillon in Penrith, a Whippet in Workington or a Bulldog in Barrow, every dog can have their day and support local people with life limiting illnesses.”
