Women’s Summer Football Ready For Kick Off

While the winter football leagues are heading to the business end of the season where promotion and relegation are being sorted.

Some clubs are only gearing up for the start of their season on Wednesday, April 13.

The Andrea Buggy Women’s League, named for the former Workington Reds Ladies captain Andrea Buggy who in 2020 took her own life after struggling with her mental health.

This year the competition features eleven clubs from across the county playing in 9 a side teams.

Newlaithes Ladies FC, last seasons champions with eleven wins from twelve games with Abbeytown Ladies FC the only team to beat them, begin their title defence at home to Stanwix Ladies FC.

Abbeytown Ladies FC will face Penrith AFC Ladies Diamonds while Kendal United Ladies host Vickerstown Ladies.

The Xtreme Fitness Ladies host Whitehaven AFC Ladies and in the late kick off Allerdale Wildcats face Cockermouth Highfield Ladies.

Missing out this round are Workington Diamond Ladies who will start their season next week, Wednesday 20.
