From beauty treatments and social media workshops to yoga and wine tasting, a range of free activities are set to be held as part of the development of an exciting new Community Hub for Barrow.
Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council and a member of the #BrillilantBarrow board, said: “#BrilliantBarrow is an ambitious scheme to help transform Barrow into a thriving area for years to come.
“One of seven exciting #BrilliantBarrow projects to have secured a share of £25 million in funding is a network of Community Hubs which are designed to provide a home for activities and services for people in all stages of their lives.
“They will help to bring the community together and I’m excited to see how it will help our residents in lots of different ways in the future.
“The taster day will provide an excellent opportunity for everyone to find out more about the hub and for us to understand what type of activities people might like to see or take part in once they are launched.”
The taster day will take place at The Forum, in Barrow town centre, to help members of the public get an idea about what could be on offer when a Community Hub is created on site as part of the ambitious #BrilliantBarrow Town Deal programme.
The event and its wide range of activities and workshops will go ahead on March 30 between 12pm – 3pm and 4pm-6pm.
Other locations included in the planned network of Community Hubs are Ormsgill and the former Bram Longstaffe nursery building on Barrow Island.
In addition, an outdoor learning centre and community hub will be constructed at Earnse Bay on Walney.
Barrow was among 101 towns across the country invited to bid for a share of the government’s £3.6 billion Towns Fund in 2020.
Last month the Government confirmed the #BrilliantBarrow programme had secured the full £25 million in regeneration funding available.
The programme’s seven projects will be delivered by a number of key partnership organisations across the area over several years with completion expected by 2026.
The taster day will include a wide variety of activities such as:
- Cocktail making
- Beauty treatments
- Business and social enterprise advice
- Circus skills
- Social media workshops
- Necklace making
- DJs music production
- Baking sessions
- Wine tasting
- Children’s yoga
