Police Investing Woodend Assault Appeal For Witnesses

By Rachael Grealish

Detectives investigating an incident in Copeland earlier this month are appealing for witnesses.

On Saturday, October 9, at around 2:30pm in the Woodend area in Egremont, a man in his 20s driving a red Kia Rio collided with two cyclists – a woman in her 40s and a child of secondary school age.

The man then got out the car and assaulted the woman before attempting to take the child, assaulting him in the process.

The woman was subsequently stabbed in her to her arm and torso during the assault, thankfully these wounds were not life threatening.

She was then taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle before being discharged.

The child suffered minor physical injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution and discharged.

Police said both cyclists didn’t know the man who assaulted them.

The man then left the area in his car before being involved in a single vehicle collision at 2:44pm on St Bees Road.

He was found dead in woodland a short time later, however police say the circumstances of his death are not being treated as suspicious.
