Body Found In River Eden Identified As 16-Year-Old Carlisle Boy

The body of a boy found following a multi-agency search of the river Eden has been formally identified, Cumbria Police has confirmed.

The body has been identified as 16-year-old Mohammad Abdul Hamid known as Hamid, of Barrock Street, Carlisle.

The circumstances are being investigated on behalf of the coroner and family and friends are being supported by officers.

Police received a report of a concern, by North West Ambulance Service, for the welfare of a teenage boy entered the river Eden in Rickerby Park near Stony Holme, at around 9pm on Saturday July 17.

Along with Cumbria Police, North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, the Coastguard were all deployed in the operation.

Following the search a body was found at around 11:45am yesterday, Sunday July 18.
