A wet and wild Saturday, May 8, brought a halt to any Cumbria League cricket with all matches abandoned.
However a bright but overcast Sunday, May 9, provided a better prospect with matches able to be played in the Sowerby Cup.
Hawcoat Park 1st 51 All Out – Furness 2nd 52/2
In a short match Hawcoat Park won the toss and batted first reaching 51 when the last wicket fell in the twentieth over with David Thorburn top scoring for the hosts with thirteen. The visitors didn’t hang around taking seven overs to catch the hosts as Wyll Stanway lead the way with thirty not out.
Ulverston 1st 220/8 – Kirkby in Furness 1st 210/7
A high scoring match at the Ulverston Sports Club had the hosts edging it after batting first by ten runs. Kirkby in Furness won the toss and were set two hundred and twenty by the home team after forty five overs with Ben Dryden and Shivan Perera coming close to fifties with forty seven and forty three.
Sadly for the visitors they fell ten runs short after their forty five overs with Paul Fugler scoring eighty three and Matthew Bruce felling one short of his fifty.
Whitehaven 2nd 126 All Out – Egremont 1st 242/8
Batting first at The Playground Egremont set hosts Whitehaven two hundred and forty two with Alex Hodgson top scoring with sixty two. The hosts never really got going with the Egremont bowlers sharing the wickets out as they bowled Whitehaven out for one hundred and twenty six with Adam McGarry not out for fifty five.
