If you’re a Cumbrian local you probably already know how beautiful the area is, but let it be known the Lake District is, officially, one of most scenic places in the UK.
Published on EnjoyTravel.com the Lake District is number four on the 2021 list of the ’25 Most Scenic Places in the UK’, according to photographers.
And the Lakes really is a stunning place to visit; from its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains to its historic literary associations it’s a great place to wander around – it even struck such a chord with Taylor Swift, the singer dedicated a whole song to it, ‘The Lakes’, on her Grammy-winning album Folklore.
If it were up to this journalist the Lakes would top the list, but photographers decided Bath, the Yorkshire Dales and the Jurassic Coast would take the top three spots – and, to be fair to them they are all amazing places.
The top 10 most scenic places were:
- Yorkshire Dales
- The Jurassic Coast
- Lake District
- Norfolk Broads
- Isle of Skye
Photographer Ruth Allen, who is based in the White Peak in Derbyshire, said the Lake District has a special place in her heart.
Speaking about the national park, she said: “Ambleside is picture-perfect from any angle, in any weather. It’s the ultimate destination in England for hills, swims and cakes.
“Nowhere else can satisfy the brief for a big mountain day, followed by a refreshing lakeland swim in freshwater, topped off with an abundance of options for replenishing the calories lost.
“Walk the Fairfield Horseshoe, then have a swim in Rydal Water or Windermere, and round out the day with local food from one of the many bakeries, cafes or restaurants in the town centre.”
With domestic travel back on the cards and international travel still unsure this list might be just what you need to inspire your next staycation, either at home in the Lakes or one of the other 24 beautiful places.
