Age UK West Cumbria has received a generous donation from AVRS Systems, to help them in supporting older people living in West Cumbria.
AVRS Systems is an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer company based near Seascale in Cumbria with other offices in the North East, Midlands and South of England and who work within the energy, nuclear, power, rail and water sectors.
The company has made a commitment to donate £25000 to good causes this year to help combat the affects of the pandemic in the geographic areas where they operate.
The generous donation of £9000.00 has been given to Age UK West Cumbria following on from a previous donation to the charity in 2019.
This is the single biggest donation to any charity that has ever been given by the company.
Mo Akhmed, the Managing Director at AVRS Systems says: “We believe strongly in making a difference to peoples lives in the communities in which we operate.
“We have previously supported Age UK West Cumbria in 2019 and are acutely aware of the impacts of this pandemic, particularly on older people.
“We have donated with the knowledge that the money will be targeted at those who most need it.”
The £9000 donation will go towards the continued work Age UK West Cumbria deliver in the local community.
Throughout the lockdown they have been providing services such as information & advice, telephone befriending, dog walking and shopping for those unable to leave the house.
Age UK West Cumbria Chief Executive Officer Jane Mindar comments: “Operating a charity through the pandemic has been a challenge. Our shops are one of our main areas of income to support our services, and unfortunately we have taken a financial hit due to the lockdown.
“Donations, especially one of this size, are a great help to ensure that we can continue to offer our services to the older people in West Cumbria who need it most. We are so grateful for any help that we receive.”
Age UK West Cumbria are looking forward to re-opening their shops on April 12.
