Brits And Streaming Sites Lead The Way As The 93rd Academy Awards Oscar Nominations Have Dropped

By Rachael Grealish

Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sacha Baron-Cohen, Carey Mulligan star and Olivia Colman, are among the British stars nominated for this year’s Oscars.

The 93rd Academy Awards is going to be one not to miss – along with the large number of UK nominees diversity and streaming sites are prominent among the list.

As with the Golden Globes and The BAFTAs Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ can all boast nominations at the prestigious award.

Also for the first time in the 93-year history of the Academy Awards two women – Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell – have been nominated for best director.

The Netflix film Mank – which is a black-and-white epic starring Gary Oldman as the Citizen Kane writer Herman Mankiewiczs – is leading with ten nominations, followed by The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 which each have six.

The 93rd Academy Award ceremony, which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place on April 25.
